We have almost completed three full weeks of school and everything is going well.  As I am out and about, I see that our teachers are teaching and engaging their students in very meaningful activities.  ParentsWeb has now been activated, and a parent can view the attendance and grades of their child through this useful tool.  If you have a student and are not using ParentsWeb, please take the time to set up your account. We will be using ParentsWeb to send progress reports, deficiencies, and report cards each grading period.  If you have any questions, please call the office and someone will assist you.

It is time for our High School students to begin preparing for the ACT.  The next test date is October 22, 2011, and the registration deadline is September 16, 2011.  Students may pick up a packet in the lobby of the counselor’s office.  Our Juniors will be taking the PSAT on October 12, 2011, and all other standardized testing will occur in the spring.

Students were recently given a packet of information about the Mississippi State Department of Health Adolescent Immunization Program.  Please ask your student about this if you have not received it.  This is a wonderful opportunity for students to receive needed vaccinations.  This program saves a parent approximately $800 for the set of offered vaccinations, many of which are recommended for college.  The forms must be returned by Wednesday, September 7th, which is the day the shots will be given.

Again, we are off to a great start and I am thoroughly enjoying working with the students and faculty here at Magnolia Heights.  If I can help you or your student in any way, please feel free to email me at brooke.howell@magnoliaheights.com or call me at 662-562-4491 ext. 14.  I look forward to being a part of the commitment to excellence that is the Magnolia Heights tradition.

Go Chiefs!
